Preparing for an Interview

Our client was interviewing for a position as a PR consultant with a new company. The company would require her to write promotions and give interviews in Latvian, but the Management team was Norwegian. All of her correspondence and plans would need to be detailed in English for approval.

We reviewed her past achievements, giving clear examples of what set her apart from other candidates, as well as how her past promotions did in the market place.

We went over a variety of adjectives used to describe herself: hardworking, a team-player, ambitious, etc.

We also reviewed the necessary phrases to describe her process:

First, I would…

Our initial target was…

To start with…

And further reviewed the perfect tenses of achievement and change, paying specific attention to sales and market share vocabulary:

Since implement the program, sales have increased…

I have had a lot of experience in this area….

Our costs dropped significantly, while our revenue increased dramatically…

Had we not planned for this eventuality, we would not have…

To further set her apart, we also focused on the questions she would ask her interviewers regarding challenges in the company, in the industry, in addition to what she could expect in the role, as well as what would be expected of her:

How has your company’s priorities changed?

What direction do you see the company moving in the years to come?

What sort of challenges can I expect on a day to day basis, and how will those expectations change?

Our client excelled in the interview, and was immediately called for a follow-up interview with upper management. We prepped for that as well, and she is expecting an offer by the end of the week!
